The VMware appliance for Zenoss Core 3.0.2 is now available from the Download section.  Previous versions of the VMware appliance were based on rPath Linux, the new release now uses CentOS Linux.  The change of Linux versions was made because more users were familiar with CentOS, it is easier to extend, we could offer 32 and 64-bit versions and Zenoss' QA was already doing most of their testing on CentOS and Red Hat Linux.

The Download section now lists the VMware appliance with 32 and 64-bit versions and the Zenoss Installation Guide has been upgraded to reflect the new VMware appliance.  The system requirements for running the Zenoss Virtual Appliance are largely the requirements for running the VMware Player. A typical host system used for a VMware installation should meet these specifications:

  • Dual core system
  • Minimum RAM - 1.5GB
  • Available disk space - 4GB

Further installation instructions (including converting to run on VMware ESX) are available in the Zenoss Installation Guide.

Future upgrades of the VMware appliance will simply follow the RPM-based instructions in the Installation Guide.  If you need to migrate an existing 2.5.2 or earlier VMware Appliance, please refer to the Migrating Between Zenoss Installations wiki article.
